Breaks Attendance Record!!


The third edition of the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), hosted by PETRONAS, Malaysia’s national petroleum corporation, took place from 3-5 December 2008 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The 2008 IPTC proved to be a record breaker, achieving the event’s highest attendance to date with 7,568 participants from 57 countries.

Attendees enjoyed a high-impact technical programme consisting of over 150 papers and 110 poster presentations, a plenary and four panel sessions drawing from 220 to 380 attendees per session. “There were many outstanding technical presentations coinciding with interesting panel sessions; it was very difficult to decide which session to attend”, remarked Erma Suryani Hj. Hassan, Brunei Shell Petroleum Co. Sdn Bhd.

IPTC ‘Excellence in Project Integration Award’ provides international recognition for the innovation and teamwork required to realise mega projects of one billion US dollars and greater. The 2008 award was presented to Exxon Neftegas Ltd. at a special ceremony to celebrate the achievement. “The IPTC awards have come to exemplify world-class achievements in project integration, and are one of the highlights of this event” remarked 2009 SPE President, Dr. Leo Roodhart.

IPTC set new benchmarks, with over 4,000 net square metres of exhibition space, enabling 87 exhibitors from 21 countries to showcase their technology and innovations in the energy sector.  The Environment Pavilion, a new initiative for IPTC, provided unique insights with Mitsubishi introducing its MiEV electric car which is to be launched in Japan this year and Toyota showcasing its hybrid car.  “One of the best exhibitions I have attended”, remarked Abdulkhaleq Al-Ali, Manager – Public Relations & Information, Kuwait Oil Company.

2009 IPTC will be held in Doha, Qatar from 7-9 December 2009. Call for Papers deadline is 21 March 2009.
