Doha, Qatar
The 2009 IPTC takes place in Doha, Qatar.
Geography
- Qatar is located halfway down the west coast of the Arabian Gulf. The territory encompasses several islands, including Haloul, Sheraouh, Al Beshairiya, Al Safliya, and Al Aaliya.
- The country is centrally located among the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Climate
- The country has a moderate desert climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Winter nights can be cool, but temperatures rarely drop below 14°C.
- Temperatures and humidity rise in the coastal cities and towns during summer.
- Rainfall is scarce (average 70 mm per year), falling on isolated days mainly between October and March.
Language and Religion
- The official language of the country is Arabic, but English is widely spoken and understood.
- The official religion is Islam and it is the principal source of legislation.
Transport and Communication
- The country is well served by the Doha International Airport.
- Metered taxis and limousines are easy to find. (The public transport system is called Mowasalat.)
- Telephones, telexes, faxes, and Internet connections are readily available.
