Located approximately 200 kilometers from Bangkok, the Geological Field Trip will take visitors to spectacular locations of Permian marine sediments; the main contributors to the petroleum system (source and reservoir rocks) and the oil and gas exploration and production in North-East Thailand. This region of Thailand, known as the Khorat Plateau, is the only area being investigated by many oil and gas companies for petroleum originating from Pre-Tertiary rocks. At present, two gas fields are currently produced from Permian limestone and dolomite strata. Petroleum Geology along this route might help explorers understand and familiarise themselves with the petroleum geology of North-East Thailand.

PTT Gas Separation Plant, Herbal Garden, Petrochemical & Refining Unit

Friday, 10 February 2012 ● 0730-1700 hours
USD 100/person* ● Limited to 70 persons

The PTT Gas Separation Plant (GSP) is located in the Rayong province, approximately 200 kilometers from Bangkok, in the Eastern part of Thailand. This complex is now extracting 2,600 mmscfd in total of raw natural gas from the Gulf of Thailand and has been producing 4 main products; Ethane, Propane, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Natural Gasoline (or NGL) at approximately 7 million tons a year during maximum operational condition. 40% of production is for domestic fuel consumption purpose while the remainder is for petrochemical feedstock.

Also on the agenda is to visit the Herbal Garden, planted by PTT Public Company Limited (PTT); this garden was established to conserve and develop the natural resources for people for generations to come. Various kinds of herbs were gathered and planted in the garden, which was later presented to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on 18 April 1985. In 2006, marking the Princess’ 50th Birthday, the 50th Birthday Anniversary in honor to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building was constructed and the garden was further developed. The Herb Garden consists of more than 260 medicinal herbs of about 20,000 herb trees. The garden serves as a source of Thai herbal knowledge and as a place of recreation. The 50th Birthday Anniversary in honor to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building contains an exhibition hall where visitors can enjoy interesting knowledge about Thai herbs shown through various forms of multimedia.
