International Young Professionals Competition

“World Energy…Gate to the Future”

Energy demand is expected to increase about 35% in the next 30 years. This demand will be driven by a large increase in electricity demand to generate power for homes, businesses, and industries. In the mix of energy resources, oil and gas have played an important role for decades and are expected to be the leading two energy fuels over the next 50 years and beyond, despite the fast growth of renewables.

The future of this energy demand growth depends on access to reliable and affordable energy so that economies can prosper. This growth has to be balanced with the need to protect the environment to ensure healthier lives for us and our children.

Discuss how oil and gas would continue to play an important role in the future of energy supply and what steps should be taken to ensure that such supplies are accessed, produced and used in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
