Fundamentals of Retrograde Reservoir Fluid Properties, Characterisation, and Flow in Porous Media

Sunday, 19 January 2014, 0900–1600, Meeting Room 215, QNCC, Doha, Qatar

Instructor: F. Brent Thomas, Director of Research and Development, Weatherford Laboratories, Canada

Course Outline:

The content is usually discussed over a 3-day period but has been condensed to a one-day format.  Topics covered in this presentation are:

  • Sampling and Characterization of retrograde reservoirs
  • Phase Interference and Relative Permeability Quantification
  • Optimization of Liquid Yield
  • QA/QC Techniques for Laboratory Data

The course content is covered by way of numerous case histories drawn from years of field experience world-wide.  Exercises are interspersed for instructive purposes.  Although junior engineers would gain significant insights, most of the course is designed for intermediate to advanced engineers and scientists.

Instructors:

F. Brent ThomasF. Brent Thomas, P. Eng. was with Hycal Energy Research from 1981 until 2004 and has world-wide experience in reservoir optimization.  From 2004 to 2011, Brent was employed with Weatherford Laboratories Canada as Director of Phase Behavior and EOR Research.  His current position is Director of Research and Development.  Brent has taught courses on a variety of topics, world-wide, over the last twenty years.  Brent was an SPE International Distinguished Lecturer for 2003-2004 in the area of Gas Condensate Reservoirs and was a Petroleum Society of CIM Distinguished Author.
