DeGolyer and MacNaughton (D&M): Key Considerations for Advancing Carbon Storage Projects
Developing successful CCS and CCUS projects requires evaluating three key areas:
- Identifying subsurface storage formations with sufficient storage potential and integrity,
- Evaluating commercial viability through cost analysis and carbon market access options, and
- Creating a Monitoring Plan (MMV/MRV) that meets regulatory and/or third-party certification standards.
Subsurface assessments focus on safety and permanence, while commercial feasibility considers costs and market opportunities. Monitoring Plans use tools to track injected CO₂ and documents the procedures to ensure compliance. This session highlights critical screening factors, best practices, and insights from certified carbon storage projects to guide future developments effectively.
