Viridien: Reshaping the Geoscience Ecosystem with Digital Technologies

18 Feb 2025
IPTC Theatre (Hall 5, Ground Level)
Exhibition Seminar

The geoscience industry is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by the convergence of big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and high-performance computing (HPC). This presentation will explore how combining these technologies is reshaping the geoscience ecosystem.

We will delve into the example of data transformation in converting unstructured geoscience documents into analytics-ready formats, enabling seamless integration and interpretation. By leveraging the rapid progress in AI, such as natural language processing, geoscientists can accelerate complex document processing tasks, unlock valuable insights from vast datasets.

We will also briefly demonstrate the recent advancements in full waveform inversion (FWI) and FWI imaging. By incorporating more physics into modeling, these data-driven technologies generate more accurate subsurface images, significantly enhancing decision-making processes in exploration and production.

HPC plays an essential role in both processes by providing the capacity to handle computationally-intensive tasks such as FWI and natural language processing. By utilizing specialized cloud-based HPC solutions, geoscientists can scale their computational resources elastically to meet project demands, reducing costs and enabling the rapid analysis of petabytes of geoscience data and delivering actionable insights in real time.
