Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) Phase 1 project is an innovative liquefied natural gas (LNG) development operated by bp, alongside its partners (Kosmos, PETROSEN and SMH) and the governments of Mauritania and Senegal.

It features deepwater wells in water depths of up to 2850m, an 80km pipeline to a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO) processing 500 million cubic feet of gas daily, and on to a floating liquefied natural gas vessel (FLNG) and LNG terminal behind a 1.2km artificial breakwater, designed to protect the FLNG vessel and visiting LNG carriers from adverse weather.

First gas was announced earlier this year.

Ravenna CCS Phase 1 was designed to capture up to 25000 tons of CO2 annually from Eni’s natural gas treatment plant near Ravenna, storing it in the depleted offshore PCMW gas field.

Launched in August 2024, delivered a world’s first industrial-scale capture efficiency of over 90% peaking at 96%, under challenging CO₂ concentrations of 2.4%. Powered by recovered thermal energy and renewable electricity, Phase1 ensured net emission reduction paving the way for Phase 2, targeting 4 MTPA by 2030 and after up to 16 MTPA, making Ravenna CCS the reference storage Hub in the Southern Europe and the Mediterranean area.
